Chop Suey

Our Great Grandma's Famous New Year's Day Chop Suey.

Ingredients
1 lb. Pork Stew Meat or Tenderloin
1 cup Celery
1 Onion
14 oz. Bean Sprouts
4 oz. Chow Mein Noodles
5 Tbsp. Tamari Soy Sauce
1 Tbsp. Corn Starch
1 Tbsp. Olive Oil
2 tsp. Kitchen Bouquet
1 cup Instant White Rice
Salt and Pepper
Preparation
Prepare Ingredients
Chop onion into 1/4" dice
Chop celery into 1/2" dice.
Chop pork into 1/2" cubes.
In a bowl, whisk together corn starch, 1 Tbsp. soy sauce and olive oil.
Add diced pork pieces and a pinch of salt and pepper to the bowl and mix well until fully coated.
Cook Chop Suey
Heat a large non-stick pan over medium heat and add 2 tsp. olive oil.
Add Pork to hot pan and cook until browned 6-8 Minutes.
Add onion and sauté 5 minutes.
Stir in celery, 1 cup water, (1/4 cup) remaining soy sauce, kitchen bouquet, 1/4 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. pepper.
Cover and simmer for 5 minutes.
Add bean sprouts and chow mein noodles. Bring to a boil.
Cover and simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until chow mein noodles are fully cooked.
Stir in 1/2 cup hot water if needed for more sauce.
Cook rice while the chop suey simmers.
Serve over rice and garnish with green onion or crunchy chow mein noodles if desired.
